During Tuesday night’s new episode of Canada’s Got Talent Season 2, a young singer named Maya Gamzu impressed judge Kardinal Offishall so much that he hit the Golden Buzzer for her. Maya will go straight to the Semifinals.
Singer Maya Ganzu Earns Canada’s Got Talent Golden Buzzer
Maya introduced herself as a 14-year-old singer living in Toronto but originally from Israel. She shared that her parents wanted a “bigger future” for her and her brother, explaining that she had to hide from bombs in her home country.
For her audition, Maya performed “Something’s Got a Hold on Me,” showing off a powerhouse voice that had the audience on their feet. Judge Lilly Singh told Maya that she has a “phenomenal voice,” but she wondered if it was the right song choice to “fully showcase everything you can do.”
Offishall admitted that a different song might have taken Maya from A to A+. However, he added his belief that “with the right song choice, that you possibly could win all of Canada’s Got Talent.” That’s when he stood up to hit the Golden Buzzer for her.

Maya Is This Season’s Fourth Golden Buzzer
This is the fourth time this season that an act has earned a Golden Buzzer. The first Golden Buzzer of the season was hit by Howie Mandel for noise maker Geneviève Côté. Then Trish Stratus gave the honor to a dance group called Conversion. Last week, judge Lindsay Ell hit the Golden Buzzer for singer Anica.
All of these acts will go straight to the Semifinals. In an interview after the big moment, Maya said it “means everything to me.” She promised Offishall, “I’m not gonna disappoint you. I’m gonna work hard, and I’m gonna do this for you and for everybody.”
Who will get Lilly Singh’s Golden Buzzer? We’ll have to wait and see. Canada’s Got Talent Season 2 airs Tuesday nights at 8/7c on Citytv.
